Cornwall planners have approved a project to provide public access to Garden Battery the BBC reports.
Garden Battery sits on the west side of the channel leading to the naval Dockyard at Plymouth and in cooperation with Drakes Island helped to close that channel. Built in 1862 the seven gun casemated battery was armed with six 9 inch Rifle Muzzle Loader Guns in 1886 and had been abandoned by 1927. (Source Palmerston Forts Society)
