Slough Fort restore west wing battery with FSG help
and secure further funding for the east wing
With support from an FSG Grant the Slough Fort Preservation Trust have restored the previously derelict and partially buried west wing battery. The battery dates back to 1891 and housed two 'disappearing guns' a 6-inch and a 9.2-inch, the emplacement for which has been recently excavated.
Keith Gulvin from the Trust explains the history of the west wing battery and the restoration work in this detailed article.
FSG was very pleased to learn that the Slough Fort Preservation Trust have been successful in securing funding from the Heritage Fund to create a visitor centre and exhibition in the magazine in the east wing battery.
