The volunteers at Shoreham Fort have been hard at work creating a brand-new educational WW2 area and immersive ‘Air Raid Shelter Experience’ that transports visitors back to the harrowing days of the Second World War. The opening as part of the Heritage Open Day on 14 September 2024 is shown above.
It gives a new purpose to part of the fort (the west caponier) which had been prone to vandalism and the new facility is already supporting school visits. The fort is now able to tell the story of it's history and of WW1 with the memorial trench and WW2 with this new facility.

The Fortress Study Group were very pleased to support this project because it very clearly aligns with the FSG’s remit to educate the public.
The next round of FSG grants will be launched on the 1st of November 2024.
