The BBC report that the Henrician South Blockhouse in Hull will feature in a play, titled When Cannons Were Roaring: The Story of Hull's South Blockhouse, is being staged by the Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) at a number of local venues in March. Tickets are available from NAPA here.
This follows an earlier announcement that the South Blockhouse which only survives as archaelogical evidence will be partially 'reconstructed' using mesh structures (as shown above) to create a new garden and visitor attraction with work starting in summer 2025 for completion in the autumn.
In a further positive development the National Picture Theatre on Beverley Road which was bombed in 1941 and has remained derelict ever since is to be restored. The open space where the auditorium once stood will be used to create a flexible education and community events area and war memorial, enabling visitors to learn about the life of civilians in the Second World War.
